Job Purpose

The General Worker role is a critical part of Afrimat’s quarry operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with various manual and operational tasks to ensure that the site runs efficiently, safely, and in compliance with mining and environmental regulations.

This position requires a dependable and physically fit individual who can work effectively under supervision, follow instructions, and contribute to a productive and safe work environment.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a General Worker at Afrimat Tygerberg Quarry, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Performing manual labour and assisting in day-to-day quarry operations.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the worksite, ensuring that all areas are kept safe and free from obstructions.
  • Assisting equipment operators and maintenance teams as required.
  • Handling hand tools and machinery responsibly to support operational needs.
  • Participating in basic maintenance and repair work under supervision.
  • Adhering strictly to Afrimat’s safety standards and procedures at all times.
  • Following instructions from supervisors and working collaboratively with other team members.
  • Supporting housekeeping and environmental compliance in accordance with mining site standards.

The role involves outdoor work and may include lifting, carrying, and operating in various weather conditions.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Grade 12 / Matric (compulsory).
  • Experience: At least 1–2 years’ experience as a General Worker, preferably in a quarry, mining, or construction environment.
  • Skills:
    • Basic knowledge of hand tools and machinery.
    • Ability to follow safety protocols and operational procedures.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills.
    • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour tasks.
  • Medical Fitness: Must be medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act requirements.
  • Advantageous:
    • Experience operating heavy machinery or equipment.
    • Valid driver’s licence or operator’s certificate.
