Overview
The Department of Health invites suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for three (3) Driver positions within the Admin and Logistics (Transport) Directorate at Steve Biko Academic Hospital. This role is essential in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of patients, medical supplies, documentation, and equipment in support of healthcare service delivery.
The successful candidates will play a vital role in maintaining reliable transport operations, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy, and adhering to safety and compliance standards at all times.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- A valid Code 10 (C1) Driver’s License with Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working as a driver.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Discipline, reliability, and loyalty.
- Knowledge and understanding of road maps and directions.
- Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
Note: Where a Driver’s Licence is mandatory, exception may be granted for persons with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed Drivers will be responsible for the following duties:
Patient Transportation
- Transport patients to various institutions for consultations, check-ups, and follow-up appointments.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during transportation.
Delivery and Collection Services
- Collect and deliver medication from medical depots and other institutions.
- Collect and deliver official documents between institutions.
- Collect and transport medical equipment and materials as required.
Vehicle Management and Compliance
- Conduct vehicle inspections before and after each trip.
- Record and report any vehicle faults or defects.
- Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy prior to use.
- Report accidents, damages, or dents immediately to the Transport Officer.
- Ensure vehicle tools and equipment are in good condition.
- Accurately record start and end kilometre readings in the logbook.
- Submit keys, fuel card, and logbook to the Transport Officer after completing trips.
- Complete all necessary trip authorization documentation accurately and timeously.
