Overview
The Department of Health is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Household Aid within the Support Services Directorate at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic residential environment within the institution.
The successful candidate will assist in ensuring that all residential and designated areas are properly cleaned, disinfected, and maintained according to health and safety standards. This role requires physical endurance, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- NQF Level 1 or 2 (ABET Level 2 certificate or equivalent).
- No previous working experience is required.

Key Responsibilities
The appointed Household Aid will be responsible for ensuring a clean and secure environment within the residential areas of the hospital. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Cleaning flats, rooms, floors, stairs, lifts, offices, and other designated areas.
- Disinfecting toilets, showers, sluice rooms, and related facilities.
- Dusting flats and washing windows.
- Collecting and disposing of general waste to designated areas.
- Collecting cleaning materials and waste bags as required.
- Reporting any maintenance issues within the residence to the supervisor.
- Disinfecting flats or rooms before allocation to new occupants.
- Adhering strictly to safety regulations and infection control measures.
- Performing any additional duties as outlined in the job description or delegated by the Housekeeper in charge of the shift.
