Position Overview
A reputable private hospital in Hillcrest is seeking a dedicated and professional Enrolled Nurse to join the team in Surgical Ward 1B. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering direct and/or indirect nursing care to patients under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Unit Manager.
This position requires a compassionate, detail-oriented nursing professional who is committed to high standards of patient care, clinical excellence, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Duties
- Provide direct and/or indirect nursing care to individual patients or groups of patients.
- Deliver safe, effective, and holistic patient care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Monitor patients’ conditions and report any changes to the Registered Nurse or Unit Manager.
- Promote patient comfort, dignity, and wellbeing at all times.
- Assist in implementing treatment plans and nursing interventions as prescribed.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timeous documentation reflecting patient care.
- Ensure compliance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) regulations and code of conduct.
- Adhere to all applicable healthcare legislation and hospital policies.
- Identify and minimize medico-legal risks in the ward environment.
Ward Operations & Quality Improvement
- Maintain a clean, therapeutic, and safe ward environment.
- Participate in the ward’s quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities.
- Attend shift handovers and actively participate in reporting and communication.
- Carry out delegated tasks and departmental duties efficiently and within required timeframes.
Communication & Professional Conduct
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding care plans and procedures.
- Refer patient or doctor complaints to the sister-in-charge or Unit Manager.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Uphold professional behavior and ethical standards at all times.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Registration
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nurse (Essential).
- Compliance with the SANC code for an Enrolled Nurse and all relevant healthcare legislation.
Experience
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a private hospital environment.
- Relevant experience in a Medical Ward setting (Essential).
- Experience within a surgical ward environment will be advantageous.
