Position Overview
A leading private hospital in Gateway is seeking a Qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant to join its Pharmacy Department. The successful candidate will support the Pharmacist in dispensing medication and performing pharmacy-related administrative duties in accordance with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations and hospital policies.

Key Responsibilities
Dispensing Support
- Assist the Pharmacist with the accurate dispensing of prescription medications.
- Prepare and label medication according to prescribed instructions and legal requirements.
- Ensure all dispensing processes comply with SAPC regulations and hospital protocols.
- Maintain accurate patient medication records.
- Check expiry dates and ensure proper storage of medication.
Administrative Duties
- Perform pharmacy-related administrative tasks, including filing, record-keeping, and stock documentation.
- Capture prescriptions and patient information accurately on the dispensing system.
- Assist with processing medication orders and managing stock levels.
- Support ordering processes in line with hospital procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
Stock Control & Systems
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages.
- Assist with stock counts and stock rotation to prevent wastage.
- Use computerized dispensing and ordering systems effectively.
- Ensure proper storage and control of scheduled medicines in accordance with legal requirements.
Customer & Team Interaction
- Communicate clearly and professionally with healthcare professionals and patients.
- Provide accurate information within scope of practice.
- Work collaboratively with pharmacists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Deliver service excellence while maintaining efficiency and accuracy.
Compliance & Professional Conduct
- Adhere strictly to pharmacy legislation and ethical standards.
- Follow instructions and procedures consistently.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.

Minimum Requirements
Education & Registration
- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification (Essential).
- Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification (Essential).
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) (Essential).
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a similar pharmacy position.
- Experience in a private healthcare environment or healthcare funding industry will be advantageous.
