Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the General Worker – Assistant role is to provide operational and logistical support within the distribution environment. The position plays an important role in maintaining efficiency, cleanliness, and safety across the site, while supporting drivers and ensuring that daily operational activities run smoothly.
This role is ideal for individuals who are self-motivated, dependable, and capable of carrying out physically demanding tasks while following instructions and safety procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Assisting truck drivers with the loading and offloading of goods
- Ensuring that outside walkways and work areas remain clear, clean, and free of debris
- Cleaning the entire premises, including operational and common areas
- Maintaining a safe, hygienic, and orderly working environment
- Notifying building management or supervisors of any repairs or maintenance issues that require attention
- Handling cleaning equipment, tools, and machinery in a safe and responsible manner
- Using cleaning chemicals correctly and ensuring proper storage and disposal
- Supporting general site maintenance and housekeeping activities
- Carrying out ad hoc duties as required to support operational needs
- Following all reasonable instructions issued by the Supervisor or Management
- Complying with all workplace health and safety requirements at all times
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric / NQF Level 4 qualification
- Medically fit and physically capable of performing manual tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to attending work as scheduled
- Willing and able to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Clean criminal record
- Must have own reliable transport to and from the workplace
- Ability to safely handle heavy equipment and cleaning machinery
- Ability to walk, bend, push, pull, and lift repeatedly during working hours
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, including correct usage, storage, and disposal
- Ability to work safely and adhere strictly to health and safety procedures
