Position Overview

Clicks Group is currently recruiting for a Shop Assistant / Cashier to be based at its Prince Buthelezi Mall store in Empangeni. This permanent role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about customer service, retail operations, and delivering a consistently high standard of in-store experience.

The successful candidate will play a key role at the point of sale (POS), ensuring efficient transactions, accurate cash handling, effective merchandising, and friendly customer engagement. This position contributes directly to Clicks’ vision of being the customer’s first choice health and beauty retailer.


Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of the Shop Assistant / Cashier role is to deliver service excellence through efficient customer service, accurate point of sale operations, and effective merchandising. The role focuses on ensuring that customers receive a positive, professional, and welcoming experience that supports customer loyalty and sales growth.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Efficiently executing all point of sale (POS) operational activities in a timely and accurate manner
  • Accurately scanning merchandise and processing customer payments
  • Managing and applying Clicks ClubCard rewards correctly during transactions
  • Ensuring the safe handling of cash and compliance with cash control procedures at all times
  • Actively promoting the Clicks ClubCard, enrolling new members, and achieving participation targets
  • Informing customers of current promotions, specials, and in-store offers to drive sales and value
  • Delivering superior customer service by acting as a brand ambassador for Clicks
  • Maintaining a friendly, professional, and helpful attitude toward all customers
  • Executing merchandising activities in line with store layout and visual merchandising standards
  • Performing general housekeeping duties to ensure a clean, organised, and appealing store environment
  • Supporting the company’s values and contributing to Clicks’ goal of being the preferred health and beauty retailer
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of products, ranges, promotions, and events
  • Providing accurate information and assistance to customers at all times

Knowledge Requirements

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge or understanding of the following:

  • Basic mathematical calculations
  • Retail or FMCG environments, including merchandising and promotional principles
  • Stock management and control procedures
  • Customer service excellence and retail best practices

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Essential: Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Desirable: Mathematics 50% and English 50% at Grade 12 level

Experience:

  • Desirable: Previous experience in a customer-facing role within a retail or FMCG store operations environment
