Takealot, one of South Africa’s leading online retail and delivery platforms, is currently recruiting Entry-Level Hub Assistants for its Newcastle operations. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are seeking their first work experience and are interested in warehouse, logistics, or administrative support roles.

The positions are based at a Takealot / Mr D Food warehouse hub and focus on supporting daily hub operations and recruitment-related activities. Two Hub Assistant roles are available, each aligned with a different operational focus area.


Available Hub Assistant Roles
1. Hub Assistant – Warehouse & Hub Operations

This role supports the day-to-day functioning of the warehouse and hub operations. It is best suited to individuals who are physically fit and comfortable working in an active warehouse environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with daily warehouse and hub operations
  • Sorting, scanning, and preparing customer orders
  • Supporting dispatch processes and assisting drivers where required
  • Ensuring parcels and orders are handled accurately and efficiently
  • Maintaining general housekeeping and cleanliness in the warehouse
  • Following operational procedures and safety guidelines
  • Performing general support tasks as required by the hub management team

This role is physically demanding and requires attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to work under pressure.


2. Hub Assistant – Recruitment Support

This role focuses on supporting recruitment and basic HR-related activities at the hub. It is ideal for candidates who have strong communication skills and enjoy working with people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with contractor and driver recruitment processes
  • Screening applications and assisting with shortlisting
  • Scheduling interviews and onboarding sessions
  • Maintaining basic recruitment records and reports
  • Providing general administrative support related to HR activities
  • Assisting the hub team with recruitment-related coordination

This role requires good organisational skills, professionalism, and clear communication.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for either Hub Assistant role, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • No matric certificate required
  • No previous work experience required
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and responsible
  • Willing and able to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Good communication skills (especially important for the recruitment support role)
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks (for the warehouse operations role)
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions
  • Must be based in or able to travel to Newcastle
