Job Overview

Sibanye-Stillwater invites applications for the Learnership 18.1 Learner Official A Stream within its Gold West Wits Operating Segment. This opportunity is open to both internal and external candidates who meet the minimum requirements and are interested in developing a career within the mining industry through a structured learnership programme.

The learnership is intended to provide learners with foundational knowledge, practical exposure, and workplace readiness in line with company standards and regulatory requirements. Successful candidates will be appointed on a permanent employment basis, subject to meeting all selection, medical, and security requirements.

A total of three (3) positions are available.

Selection and Application Process

Applicants are advised that:

  • Your manager must be aware of and support your application (for internal applicants)
  • The selection process may include pre-screening and psychometric assessments
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a panel interview
  • Candidates who do not receive feedback within 14 days after the closing date may consider their application unsuccessful

Final placement is dependent on meeting all programme and institutional requirements.

Minimum Required Qualifications

To be considered for this learnership, applicants must meet all of the following academic criteria:

  • A Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate with:
    • English: Level 5 (60% or higher)
    • Mathematics: Level 5 (60% or higher)
    • Physical Science: Level 5 (60% or higher)
  • University acceptance with a minimum APS score of 23
    • Mid-year results may be provisionally considered for applicants currently completing Grade 12
  • Applicants must not currently be studying at a university or have completed prior university studies

Final allocation is dependent on obtaining an official acceptance letter from the University of Johannesburg.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must also meet the following conditions:

  • Be medically fit to work in the designated business area
  • Have a clear security screening record
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence (where applicable)
  • Reside within a labour sending area or local community
  • Be willing to complete workplace orientation and underground exposure visits as part of the selection process
  • All applicants will be subject to South African Police Services clearance, in accordance with the National Explosives Act

No prior work experience is required for this learnership.

Key Responsibilities and Programme Expectations

Learners appointed to the programme will be expected to fulfil the following responsibilities:

Programme Objectives
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the learnership objectives and associated tasks
  • Complete all modules of the development programme within the prescribed timeframe
  • Raise and escalate any queries or challenges related to the programme where necessary
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and codes of conduct
Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE)
  • Comply with all legal, safety, and operational requirements
  • Perform all work according to prescribed standards, training, and specifications
  • Attend SHE meetings as required
  • Ensure prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn and used correctly
  • Identify and report hazardous situations and participate in on-the-job risk assessments
Reporting and Communication
  • Compile and submit developmental progress reports
  • Report inconsistencies, obstacles, or challenges encountered
  • Communicate ideas, suggestions, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders
