Job Overview

SAB / AB InBev is currently seeking a Packaging Operator to join its team at the Rosslyn Brewery. This role is suited to individuals who are committed to operational excellence, safety, and quality within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining packaging equipment and supporting related processes to ensure optimal production efficiency.

Key Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of the Packaging Operator role is to safely operate, monitor, and maintain defined packaging equipment and associated processes. The position aims to achieve optimal effectiveness, productivity, and quality while complying with safety, health, and operational standards.


Key Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of operational and administrative duties, including but not limited to:

  • Operating packaging equipment and managing associated production processes in line with operational standards
  • Interpreting and implementing the production plan for each shift
  • Operating both manual and automated machinery according to established procedures
  • Monitoring and ensuring process quality, efficiency, and productivity throughout the packaging line
  • Performing administrative tasks such as tracking production data, monitoring performance, and initiating corrective actions when required
  • Managing systems such as PIMS and POMS, identifying negative trends, and taking appropriate corrective action
  • Using OFRs (as per defined triggers) to address operational issues
  • Contributing to AB reports when required
  • Maintaining a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment in line with company and legislative requirements

The role requires attention to detail, adherence to standard operating procedures, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following attributes and competencies:

  • Proven experience in driving sound commercial decisions within a packaging or manufacturing environment, including financial, operational, and people-related considerations
  • A strong performance record that reflects discipline, reliability, and a commitment to quality standards
  • A clear understanding of relevant legislation, particularly health and safety regulations and labour legislation
  • The ability to work effectively within a team while also taking accountability for individual performance
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions accurately

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the minimum requirements listed below to be considered:

  • Education:
    • Minimum Grade 12 (Matric) qualification
    • Post-matric qualification such as N4, National Diploma, or equivalent
  • Certifications:
    • An IOB Certificate will be considered an added advantage
  • Training:
    • A minimum of 9 months on-the-job training
    • Completion of SKAP within 12 months
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience within a Packaging FMCG industry environment

Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee selection. Shortlisting will be based on overall suitability and operational requirements.
