Position Overview

Midvaal Local Municipality invites suitably qualified and motivated Midvaal residents to apply for the position of General Worker: Libraries, based in Randvaal. This role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for municipal employees and members of the public who access library and municipal facilities.

The successful candidate will perform cleaning, hospitality, and general support duties, contributing to the smooth daily operation of library services. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions effectively.


Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Cleaning offices, bathrooms, kitchens, stockrooms, and public areas to ensure a hygienic and healthy working environment
  • Maintaining cleanliness in library facilities used by employees and the public
  • Serving tea and coffee to visitors, staff, and guests when required
  • Preparing venues for meetings, including cleaning, arranging furniture, and setting out water decanters, glasses, and refreshments
  • Assisting with basic general office administration duties once scheduled cleaning tasks are completed
  • Performing ad hoc duties and other reasonable tasks as requested by supervisors or management
  • Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety standards at all times

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Grade 10 qualification (minimum requirement)
  • Grade 12 (Matric) will be an added advantage
  • A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be bilingual
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently
  • Good physical health and capability to perform physical labour
  • Self-discipline, reliability, and a strong work ethic
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience as a general worker or cleaner, preferably within a Local Government Authority

Preference will be given to applicants who are residents of Midvaal.

  • The municipality reimburses travel costs for interviews or assessments only for candidates travelling more than 400 km, and only for positions on levels 1 to 4
