AQUITY Innovations NPC is a non-profit organisation appointed by the National Department of Health as one of the Global Fund TB Sub-Recipients (SRs) in South Africa. The organisation supports the implementation of tuberculosis (TB) programmes in collaboration with government health services and community stakeholders.
Programme activities are implemented in Mpumalanga (Ehlanzeni District) and the Eastern Cape Province, specifically within Buffalo City Metro and Amathole Districts. These programmes aim to strengthen TB prevention, screening, treatment support, and community-based health services.
Vacancy Overview
AQUITY Innovations NPC is seeking to appoint thirty-two (32) TB Support Officers to be based in the Buffalo City Metro, covering East London and the King William’s Town (KWT)/Bhisho sub-districts.
TB Support Officers will play a key role in community-based TB interventions, supporting early identification of TB cases, treatment adherence, and linkage to care. The positions are contract-based and aligned to the duration of the Global Fund TB programme.
Key Responsibilities
The TB Support Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
- Conduct TB screening among close contacts of TB patients and other identified high-risk groups at community level
- Collect specimens in line with approved TB screening and infection prevention protocols
- Capture daily activities accurately on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools
- Submit daily reports to the assigned supervisor
- Support TB adherence clubs to improve treatment adherence and patient retention in care
- Provide patient education and basic counselling to individuals diagnosed with TB
- Support Mobile Digital Chest X-Ray (DCXR) outreach activities to increase demand for TB screening services
- Conduct door-to-door community outreach and health promotion activities
- Trace individuals, including TB patients, who have missed clinic appointments or treatment follow-ups
- Refer individuals who test positive for TB, as well as sick household contacts, to the nearest health facility
- Work collaboratively with clinics, community structures, and programme teams
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate) or equivalent qualification
- Certification as a Community Health Care Worker will be an advantage
Experience Requirements
- Previous experience in health promotion and health education
- Ability to operate a mobile device for data capturing and reporting
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to engage community members
- Basic counselling skills related to health education and patient support
