Position Overview

The Health Systems Trust seeks to appoint 35 (thirty-five) Data Capturers to support the National Department of Health’s Global Fund Tuberculosis (TB) Project in the eThekwini District. These positions will form part of the Digital X-Ray Programme team, responsible for capturing, verifying, and reporting TB-related data from community and facility-based screening activities.

The Data Capturers will play a crucial role in ensuring data accuracy and completeness, supporting effective TB monitoring, and enabling better patient care through reliable health information management.

This is a fixed-term contract position that may be renewed based on the continuation of project funding.


Key Responsibilities
  • Capture, record, and verify all TB screening data collected from community and health facility activities.
  • Ensure timely submission of daily, weekly, and monthly reports to project supervisors and data managers.
  • Generate summaries and data reports for management, monitoring, and reporting purposes.
  • Support the Digital X-Ray team with accurate data entry, storage, and retrieval to maintain up-to-date patient records.
  • Identify and report linkage referrals to facility staff responsible for patient tracking and tracing.
  • Perform data quality checks, data cleaning, and verification to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, Department of Health staff, and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist with general administrative duties, such as filing, documentation, and record-keeping.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities within the TB project.

The role requires consistent attention to detail, confidentiality, and a commitment to maintaining high data integrity standards.

Minimum Education and Qualifications
  • Matriculation Certificate (Grade 12) is required.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in information management, health sciences, or administration will be an added advantage.
  • Training and/or experience with TIER.Net software is essential.
  • Knowledge of District Health Information System (DHIS) or similar health data platforms is advantageous.

Experience Required
  • At least two (2) years of experience in data capturing and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in recording and reporting TB and HIV programme data.
  • Familiarity with health sector monitoring and evaluation systems.
  • Experience working in donor-funded projects (such as the Global Fund) will be an asset.

Remuneration

This position offers a Total Cost to Company (TCTC) salary package in line with Global Fund requirements, ranging between R222,703 and R279,385.67 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
