General Assistant – Retail Store
Location: Gqeberha, Eastern Cape

Job Purpose:

  • To support daily store operations and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • To assist customers with product information, purchases, and general enquiries.
  • To maintain cleanliness, organisation, and stock levels in the store.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers warmly and offer assistance.
  • Provide accurate product information and help customers choose suitable items.
  • Promote sales, specials, and offers to customers.
  • Handle customer complaints and resolve issues professionally.
  • Process payments, including cash and card transactions.
  • Issue receipts and handle refunds and exchanges correctly.
  • Receive and unpack deliveries.
  • Organise stock in the storeroom and on the shop floor.
  • Pack shelves neatly and ensure products are always available.
  • Restock items quickly when they run out.
  • Assist with stock takes and inventory control.
  • Ensure correct pricing and report any discrepancies.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the store, storeroom, and kitchen areas.
  • Dispose of waste properly and follow environmental guidelines.
  • Follow all safety, security, and emergency procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12).
  • Experience as a General Assistant, General Worker, or General Clerk.
  • Must live within 25 km of the job location.
  • Must have a clear criminal record.

Preferred Requirements:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Candidates aged between 18 and 65.
  • Previous experience in customer service or retail environment.
  • Experience with stock taking and point-of-sale (POS) systems.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Friendly, approachable, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.

  • Basic numeracy skills for handling payments.
