Bitou Municipality invites applications for the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) positions of Plumbers and Assistant Plumbers. We are seeking committed, skilled individuals to join our team in maintaining and improving water and sewage systems across the municipality. These positions offer a daily rate of R250 for Plumbers and R180 for Assistant Plumbers.
Position Overview
Plumbers
The role of a Plumber involves installing, repairing, and maintaining water and sewage systems. Plumbers are responsible for ensuring that all plumbing work meets municipal standards and operates efficiently. This position requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a qualified plumber and a strong knowledge of plumbing tools, materials, and techniques.
Assistant Plumbers
Assistant Plumbers support qualified plumbers by performing basic plumbing tasks and assisting with installations and repairs. Candidates should have at least 2 years’ experience in pipe laying and a willingness to learn and grow within the role. This position provides practical experience for individuals seeking to advance their plumbing career.
Key Responsibilities
For Plumbers:
- Installation: Assemble and install pipes, fittings, and fixtures for water and sewage systems.
- Repair & Maintenance: Diagnose plumbing problems, including leaks, blockages, and other system issues.
- Preventive Maintenance: Read and interpret technical drawings to identify potential problems and recommend system reconfigurations.
- Tools & Equipment: Advise on suitable materials, tools, and equipment for specific tasks.
For Assistant Plumbers:
- Assist plumbers with installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of plumbing work and procedures.
Required Skills and Competencies
Plumbers:
- Proficient in installing water and sewage systems.
- Experienced in diagnosing and repairing plumbing problems.
- Ability to read technical drawings and advise on preventive maintenance.
- Knowledgeable about plumbing tools, equipment, and materials.
Assistant Plumbers:
- Basic understanding of plumbing installation and maintenance.
- Willingness to learn and assist qualified plumbers.
