Job Overview

RCL Foods is inviting applications from enthusiastic and motivated individuals to participate in its Baking Learnership Programme based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This opportunity is aimed at young people who have a passion for baking and are ready to gain hands-on workplace experience within a professional manufacturing and food production environment.

The learnership is a 12-month, SETA-accredited programme that combines structured theoretical learning with practical on-the-job training. Successful learners will work under mentorship and coaching while gaining exposure to industry-standard baking processes. A total of five (5) learners will be selected for this programme.

This learnership is designed to support skills development in the baking industry while preparing learners for potential future roles within the food manufacturing sector.

About the Learnership Programme

The Baking Learnership Programme is facilitated through the Supreme Siyabhaka Academy, an initiative focused on developing technical baking skills and raising industry standards. Learners will receive structured training that aligns with SETA requirements and industry best practices.

Upon successful completion of the programme, learners will receive a formal qualification that is endorsed by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). This qualification aims to enhance employability and provide learners with a solid foundation in professional baking.

The programme emphasizes both personal and technical development, ensuring learners gain exposure to real-world production environments while developing workplace readiness.

Key Learning Areas and Responsibilities

During the 12-month learnership, learners will be exposed to various aspects of baking and food production. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning and applying basic baking principles and techniques
  • Assisting in the preparation and production of baked goods
  • Understanding food safety, hygiene, and quality standards
  • Exposure to manufacturing and operational processes
  • Participating in mentorship and coaching sessions
  • Completing workplace-based tasks as required by RCL Foods and the SETA
  • Attending structured training sessions and completing assessments
  • Following company policies, safety procedures, and operational guidelines

Learners will be expected to actively participate in both the theoretical and practical components of the programme.

Purpose of the Programme

Through the Supreme Siyabhaka Academy, the learnership focuses on three key objectives:

  1. Skills Development: To nurture and develop individual learners by equipping them with relevant baking skills, helping to address skills shortages within the baking industry.
  2. Brand Excellence: To grow awareness of RCL Foods’ baking brands by associating them with quality, consistency, and best-in-class skills.
  3. Industry Leadership: To contribute to raising the overall standard of professional and in-store bakery products, strengthening customer confidence and industry perception.
Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the learnership:

  • A Grade 12 (Matric) qualification, with Hospitality Studies and Mathematics Literacy as essential subjects
  • Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office, is advantageous
  • A demonstrated willingness to learn and grow
  • Strong motivation and drive to achieve performance standards
  • Creative and lateral thinking skills
  • A problem-solving mindset and positive attitude
