Job Overview
Unilever South Africa is inviting applications for an Automated Packaging Learnership based at its Maydon Wharf Factory in Durban. This learnership forms part of Unilever’s Supply Chain function and is designed to provide structured workplace training combined with practical exposure to automated packaging operations within a manufacturing environment.
The programme runs for 12 months on a full-time, onsite basis and is intended for individuals who are interested in developing technical, operational, and business-related skills within a production and packaging setting. Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend for the duration of the learnership.

Purpose of the Learnership
The Automated Packaging Learnership aims to equip learners with the skills and knowledge required to operate and support automated packaging equipment while maintaining strict health, safety, quality, and operational standards.
Learners will gain exposure to:
- Packaging line operations
- Mechanical and basic maintenance concepts
- Quality monitoring and assurance
- Workplace communication and coordination
- Sustainable and eco-efficient manufacturing practices

Key Responsibilities
During the learnership, participants will be expected to perform duties aligned with operational and training requirements. These include, but are not limited to:
- Performing general production line operations and cleaning activities in line with operational plans
- Conducting pre-start-up checks to ensure equipment readiness, cleanliness, and safety in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Monitoring product and packaging quality against established standards and reporting faults or deviations
- Identifying process abnormalities and taking immediate corrective action to prevent escalation
- Cleaning machinery according to manufacturer guidelines and site-specific requirements
- Preparing, checking, and handling raw materials for production use
- Maintaining personal safety and contributing to team safety on the production line
- Supporting eco-efficient and sustainable work practices
- Completing all learnership requirements, including assessments, logbooks, assignments, and training modules
Learners are expected to actively participate in both the theoretical and practical components of the programme.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following minimum qualification requirements:
- A National Senior Certificate (Matric) with passes in Mathematics and Physical Science, or
- An N2, N3, or N4 Engineering qualification
Candidates who do not meet the minimum academic requirements may not be considered for the programme.

Compensation and Benefits
