Position Overview
SGS is seeking a Cleaner to join its Randfontein Laboratory team in the West Rand, Gauteng. This is a full-time position suited to a reliable, detail-oriented individual who takes pride in maintaining a clean, organised, and hygienic working environment.
The Cleaner will be responsible for ensuring that offices, common areas, kitchens, and restroom facilities are cleaned and maintained to a high standard throughout the working day. The role is essential in supporting a safe, professional, and productive laboratory environment.
Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Cleaner role is to ensure that all assigned areas within the SGS Randfontein Laboratory are kept clean, sanitary, and orderly. The Cleaner will also be responsible for identifying cleaning supply requirements and communicating these needs to the Line Manager in a timely manner.
This role contributes directly to workplace health, safety, and efficiency by maintaining cleanliness standards in accordance with company expectations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out regular and routine cleaning duties, including but not limited to the following:
- Sweeping and washing floors in offices and common areas
- Emptying dustbins and sorting waste according to requirements
- Moving refuse and bins to designated collection points for removal
- Cleaning and maintaining kitchen areas, including sinks, counters, and appliances
- Washing and drying cups and kitchen utensils
- Dusting office furniture, equipment, and surfaces
- Cleaning desks and workstations as required
- Ensuring bathrooms and toilet facilities are cleaned, sanitised, and well-stocked
- Performing deep cleaning of specific sections when instructed by the Line Manager
- Maintaining general cleanliness and order throughout the laboratory and office spaces
The Cleaner must ensure that all cleaning tasks are completed efficiently and in accordance with SGS hygiene and safety standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) qualification
- Willingness to work overtime when required
- Flexibility to work shifts, depending on operational needs
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently
- Physically fit to perform cleaning duties, including standing, bending, and lifting
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness
Previous cleaning experience will be an advantage but is not mandatory, provided the candidate demonstrates the required work ethic and willingness to learn.
