Learnership Overview
The OSS Hastings Learnership is a 12-month structured, work-based learning programme designed specifically for unemployed youth who are interested in gaining workplace experience in a call centre and insurance environment.
This learnership provides participants with practical exposure, formal training, and the opportunity to develop essential workplace and customer service skills. Learners will enter into a fixed-term learnership agreement, which is not a permanent employment contract.
The programme is intended to equip learners with the skills and experience needed to pursue future career opportunities within the financial services and insurance industry.
Purpose of the Programme
The primary purpose of the learnership is to provide unemployed youth with:
- Hands-on workplace experience
- Exposure to call centre operations within an insurance environment
- Practical application of theoretical training
- Development of communication, customer service, and professional skills
While completion of the learnership does not guarantee permanent employment, it significantly enhances employability and prepares learners for entry-level roles in the industry.
Working Hours and Schedule
Learners will be required to work according to a pre-determined shift roster, which includes:
- Friday to Monday: 9-hour shifts
- Saturday: 8-hour shift
- Sunday: 5-hour shift
- Two weekdays off, which may be Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
- One weekday per week dedicated to full qualification training conducted on-site
Public Holidays
Learners may be required to work on South African public holidays if scheduled on the roster. This does not apply if the public holiday falls in the United Kingdom.

Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this INSETA-accredited learnership, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Matric (Grade 12) qualification
- Computer literacy, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- No prior work experience required
- South African citizen
- Between the ages of 18 and 35
- Unemployed for the last six (6) months
- Must not have previously participated in an INSETA learnership
Applicants who do not meet these criteria will not be considered.
