Job Purpose
The Truck Driver – PGBG (Durban) will be responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient delivery of glass products to and from customers while maintaining the highest standards of service and professionalism. This role requires a trustworthy and responsible driver who can manage delivery documentation accurately and ensure the vehicle is always maintained in excellent condition.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will handle the following core duties:
1. Delivery Operations
- Safely deliver and collect glass products to and from customers and company branches.
- Maintain an excellent understanding of road networks, routes, and traffic patterns within the Durban area.
- Ensure on-time and secure deliveries while maintaining the integrity and quality of the glass products.
- Load and offload materials carefully to prevent damage during transport.
2. Vehicle Care and Maintenance
- Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Keep the truck clean inside and out at all times.
- Immediately report any vehicle faults or mechanical issues to the supervisor.
- Ensure that the vehicle is serviced regularly and compliant with safety and environmental standards.
3. Documentation and Administration
- Complete daily trip sheets accurately, honestly, and in full.
- Fill out quality checklists during loading to ensure all items meet company standards.
- Accurately record all delivery and collection information on required paperwork and digital systems.
- Follow company policies for loading, offloading, and product verification.
4. Compliance and Safety
- Follow all company safety procedures, environmental policies, and housekeeping standards.
- Adhere strictly to the rules of the road and maintain defensive driving practices.
- Assist with the safe loading and securing of materials before departure.
- Comply with all work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Be willing to work overtime, weekends, and shifts when necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Minimum of Grade 12 / Matric.
License
- Valid Code 10 (C1) or higher driver’s license with Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
Experience
- At least 2 years of professional driving experience is advantageous.
- Experience in handling and transporting dangerous goods is preferred.
- Prior experience with glass handling and quality control will be a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of production orders, drawings, and glass product types is beneficial.
