Overview:
The eThekwini Municipality is seeking a capable and well-presented individual to join the Technical Support Department as a Receptionist. Job Purpose:
To provide reception and word processing functions within the SHERQ and Training Branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing incoming calls, assisting visitors, and handling administrative communication while ensuring smooth day-to-day office operations.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Perform reception duties, including:
- Operating the switchboard
- Screening and directing calls
- Handling visitor enquiries
- Taking and relaying messages
- Directing visitors to relevant staff members
- Use a personal computer to perform typing and word processing tasks
- Manage and distribute incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and correspondence to the appropriate section or director
- Keep accurate records of:
- Private telephone calls
- Fax usage
- Photocopying and other administrative resources
- Maintain a visitors’ register for security and control purposes
Key Competencies:
Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in the following competency areas:
- Written Communication: Ability to prepare clear and grammatically correct written correspondence
- Oral Communication: Good verbal communication and telephone etiquette
- Organisational Awareness: Understanding of municipal services and processes
- Business Processes: Awareness of general office functions and service delivery
- Use of Technology: Proficiency in computers, office equipment, and word processing tools
- Data Processing & Analysis: Ability to manage and process simple data entries and records
- Client Orientation & Customer Focus: Strong focus on service excellence, especially in dealing with the public
- Learning Orientation: Willingness to learn and grow within the role and organisation
- International Relationships: (Note: May be context-specific; possibly not a requirement for this role, but listed in competencies)
Minimum Requirements:
To qualify for this role, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 4
- At least 3 months of relevant work experience in a reception or administrative environment
➕ Preferred Requirements:
While not essential, candidates with the following will be given preference:
- 6 months or more experience in a similar administrative or customer-facing role
Employment Package:
- Annual Salary: R162,855.60 – R211,405.80 per annum
