Job Summary

The Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods using heavy-duty vehicles. The role includes preparing vehicles for trips, loading and offloading cargo, ensuring compliance with road safety regulations, and maintaining accurate documentation.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and adherence to company procedures and legal requirements. This position demands reliability, physical fitness, and a proven record of safe driving in challenging conditions.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Grade 12 / National Certificate.
  • Driver’s License: Valid Code EC (Code 14) driver’s license with a current PrDP (Professional Driving Permit).
  • Experience:
    • At least 3 years of experience operating an Ultra-heavy vehicle.
    • A minimum of 3 years of experience driving a Superlink, Interlink, or similar heavy vehicle combination, including proficiency in reversing and manoeuvring.
  • Work Conditions:
    • Must be willing to work weekends and public holidays as required by operational demands.
    • Must have own reliable transport to and from work.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Clean criminal record.
    • Medically fit for duty.
    • Demonstrated defensive driving skills and knowledge of safe driving practices.
    • Understanding of vehicle inspection procedures, emergency protocols, and basic use of a fire extinguisher.
    • Knowledge of loading and offloading techniques for cargo.
    • Proven ability to maximize fuel efficiency and vehicle cost-effectiveness.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

The appointed driver will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and inspecting the vehicle before each trip to ensure it meets roadworthiness and safety standards.
  • Operating Ultra-heavy-duty vehicles in a safe, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Managing the loading, transport, and offloading of goods and ensuring cargo integrity throughout the journey.
  • Completing all required transport documentation, including delivery notes, trip sheets, and inspection reports.
  • Reporting any vehicle defects, breakdowns, or emergencies promptly to the supervisor.
  • Adhering to company and legal safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintaining cleanliness and good housekeeping of assigned vehicles, uniforms, and PPE.
  • Following the company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Being prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as per operational requirements.
  • Successfully completing and maintaining compliance with the following:
    • Medical evaluation and fitness certification.
    • USCS training modules and internal driver training.
    • Company induction processes.
    • Practical driving evaluation.
    • Verification of a clean criminal record.
