Purpose of the Role
- Support customer service at the point of sale
- Deliver a world-class shopping experience
- Accurately record transactions using the Dis-Chem system
- Ensure zero tolerance for inaccuracies and eliminate fraud risks
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- At least 6 months cashier/till experience
- Computer literate (MS Office)
- Strong numerical skills
- Good command of English
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Key Responsibilities
- Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
- Build professional relationships with customers
- Report customer feedback (complaints & compliments)
- Maintain required customer transaction speed
- Stay informed about promotions and sales
- Ensure safety of customers and colleagues
- Apply Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles
- Handle and manage cash flow responsibly
- Ensure approvals for voids and price changes
- Process exchanges and returns (when authorised)
- Process all payment types:
- Cash
- Cards
- Vouchers and coupons
- Handle loyalty programs (e.g. Discovery, ABSA Rewards, eBucks, etc.)
- Secure cash in drop safe as per SOPs
- Protect login credentials (code/password)
- Ensure all items are scanned and paid for
- Safely store all money in the till
- Handle daily takings confidentially
- Detect and report suspicious behaviour
- Assist customers with product queries
- Follow all security procedures
