Remuneration
The successful candidate will receive an annual basic salary ranging from R191 556 to R262 764, depending on experience and applicable grading, excluding benefits. Additional benefits will be provided in accordance with the City of Ekurhuleni’s employment policies and conditions of service.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:
- A minimum of Grade 10
- Physical ability to perform manual labour and outdoor work
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Willingness to work in various environmental and weather conditions
No prior formal work experience is specified, but relevant experience in similar environments may be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
The General Assistant (Urban Beautification) will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the upkeep and enhancement of public spaces. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Ensuring the maintenance and safekeeping of tools and equipment
- Loading and removal of branches, garden refuse, rubble, and waste material
- Carrying out instructions related to the application of herbicides and pesticides, in line with safety guidelines
- Cleaning, weeding, and maintaining flowerbeds and landscaped areas
- Planting trees, shrubs, and other vegetation
- Pruning shrubs and maintaining green spaces
- Digging and filling of graves for new, reserved, exhumations, and second or third interments, which may include the use of equipment such as a jackhammer
- Performing any other work-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor
The role requires a high level of physical fitness, attention to safety procedures, and the ability to work effectively under supervision.
