Purpose of the Role

The General Worker in this Upskilling Non-Permanent Program will operate mining-related machinery and equipment within designed parameters, aiming to optimize operational efficiency and reduce waste. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain practical experience in mining operations while participating in structured training and competency development.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Applying and maintaining safety standards in the workplace at all times
  • Following work plans and schedules as assigned
  • Participating in daily morning meetings to discuss tasks and objectives
  • Providing clear feedback to supervisors regarding work progress
  • Conducting routine plant inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs to ensure equipment reliability
  • Identifying and reporting equipment faults using appropriate diagnostic methods
  • Adhering to housekeeping and waste disposal procedures
  • Attending training courses and seminars according to the training matrix to develop skills and competency
  • Identifying personal development needs and incorporating them into a Personal Development Plan (PDP) with approval from the group leader
  • Supporting business goals by meeting deadlines and operational targets
  • Conducting My IMS inspections, toolbox talks, PDAs, and RCAs to maintain and improve plant safety and stability
  • Identifying continuous improvement opportunities within the work area

Minimum Requirements
  • Completed Matric / Grade 12 / N3 or equivalent qualification
  • Mining or underground operational experience is an advantage
  • Ability and willingness to work in a physically demanding environment
  • Commitment to learning and upskilling within a structured program
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team
