Meridian Group is offering NQF Level 2 and NQF Level 3 Merchandising Learnerships to unemployed South African youth who are interested in building a career in the retail and merchandising industry. These learnerships are facilitated through the Wholesale and Retail SETA (W&R SETA) and combine structured theoretical learning with practical, in-store work experience.

About the Learnership
A Meridian Group Merchandising Learnership is a structured training programme that blends classroom-based learning with hands-on workplace experience. Learners are placed in retail, wholesale, or FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) environments, where they gain practical exposure to merchandising operations while completing an accredited qualification.
Successful completion of the programme results in an NQF Level 2 or Level 3 qualification, depending on entry requirements and placement.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills
- NQF Level 2: Minimum Grade 10
- NQF Level 3: Matric certificate
- Must be willing to work retail hours, including weekends
- Must be able to travel to and from assigned store locations
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be currently unemployed
- Must be between 19 and 28 years of age
- Must have a clear criminal record
- Must have a good command of the English language
Applicants should also demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and complete the full duration of the learnership.
Learner Stipend and Benefits
- Monthly stipend: R3,000.00

Please note that the stipend is intended to support learners during the training period and does not constitute a salary.
Duties and Responsibilities
Learners will receive training and practical exposure in the following areas:
1. Merchandising Tasks
- Assist with product display and placement according to planograms
- Ensure shelves are clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing
- Monitor stock availability and report shortages
- Apply correct pricing labels and promotional signage
2. Inventory Management
- Assist with stock counts and cycle counts
- Identify and report damaged, expired, or unsellable stock
- Help with receiving, unpacking, and organising stock
3. Customer Interaction
- Assist customers with basic product information
- Respond to customer queries and escalate issues when required
4. Compliance and Standards
- Adhere to health, safety, and hygiene standards
- Maintain merchandising standards in line with company and supplier requirements
- Follow all workplace policies and procedures
5. Learning and Development
- Attend scheduled training sessions and assessments
- Complete required theoretical modules
- Maintain a portfolio of evidence for assessment purposes
- Participate in supervised on-the-job training
6. Reporting and Feedback
- Provide feedback on stock levels, customer responses, and display performance
- Assist with basic daily or weekly merchandising reports
