ABOUT THE JOB

Tiger Brands is advertising multiple Operator opportunities at its Tastic Rice manufacturing plant in Mobeni, Durban. Successful candidates will assist with rice production, packaging, material handling, quality control, housekeeping and general manufacturing operations.

This is an opportunity for suitably qualified candidates who want to work in a production environment and contribute to the safe and efficient manufacturing of food products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Production and Operations

• Assist with operating production and packaging equipment under the guidance of the Production Supervisor.
• Monitor production processes and report equipment breakdowns or operational problems.
• Pack, label, handle and stack finished rice products.
• Ensure products meet the required packaging specifications and quality standards.
• Help the production team achieve daily targets.
• Identify and report defective products, packaging errors and material wastage.

2. Quality and Food Safety

• Follow company quality standards, food safety procedures and hygiene requirements.
• Maintain good personal hygiene and wear the required protective clothing.
• Prevent contamination by following established food safety procedures.
• Report foreign objects, damaged packaging, pest activity and potential food safety risks.
• Handle and store raw materials and finished products correctly.
• Follow applicable HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) procedures.

3. Housekeeping and Hygiene

• Keep workstations and production areas clean, tidy and organised.
• Perform cleaning and sanitation duties as required.
• Dispose of waste in designated areas.
• Follow cleaning schedules and procedures.
• Keep walkways, emergency exits and equipment access areas clear.

4. Health and Safety

• Comply with occupational health and safety legislation and company policies.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.
• Operate machinery only when trained and authorised.
• Report hazards, accidents, injuries and near misses immediately.
• Participate in safety meetings and training.
• Follow machinery isolation procedures and never bypass safety guards.

5. Materials Handling and Stock Control

• Handle raw materials, packaging materials and finished products responsibly.
• Assist with moving and stacking materials safely.
• Check materials for damage and report shortages or discrepancies.
• Minimise product losses, material damage and unnecessary waste.
• Assist with stock counts and material reconciliation when required.

6. Teamwork and Reporting

• Work with production, maintenance, quality assurance and other departments.
• Communicate operational problems and shift updates to supervisors.
• Complete production records, checklists and other documentation accurately.
• Perform other reasonable duties assigned by management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• NQF Level 5 qualification is preferred.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions, safety procedures and quality standards.
• Previous experience in manufacturing, food processing or production will be an advantage.
• Experience in rice processing or packaging operations will be an added advantage.
